Muturi Slams Government for Launching New Roads While Old Projects Stall

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has criticized the government for initiating new road projects while many existing ones remain unfinished.

Speaking before the National Assembly Labour Committee on Thursday, Muturi questioned why the government keeps launching multiple projects without completing ongoing ones. His latest remarks add to his growing criticism of the administration he serves.

The CS also took issue with how road construction funds are managed, questioning the country’s approach to project financing.

“I donโ€™t know if thereโ€™s something wrong with our mindset as a country. Iโ€™ve traveled across Kenya and seen projects that have stalled for over 30 years,” Muturi told lawmakers.

“If resources are limited, why not complete one project first? Canโ€™t we allocate enough funds to finish one before starting another?” he added.

Muturi cited his recent tour of Makueni County, where he found abandoned government housing projects in Wote town.

“I visited a place called Wote in Makueni County and saw houses that have been under construction for over 30 years but are still incomplete,” he said.

Lately, Muturi has been vocal about various government failures, including abductions and forced disappearances.

Meanwhile, President William Ruto continues to launch new development projects, despite financial constraints that have hindered the completion of existing ones.

On another issue, Muturi assured the parliamentary committee that no jobs would be lost due to the Cabinetโ€™s decision to dissolve and merge some state corporations. However, he acknowledged that if layoffs were necessary, affected employees would require proper compensation.

“Even if retrenchment were needed, the government would have to establish fair compensation processes,” he stated.
