Tattoos Won’t Block Heaven’s Gates, Says Citam Pastor(Video)

Reverend Jesse Mwai of Christ is The Answer Ministries (CITAM), Karen branch, has refuted claims that tattoos can prevent someone from entering heaven.

In a video shared on the churchโ€™s Instagram page on Monday, January 13, 2024, Reverend Mwai clarified that he was not encouraging believers to get tattoos but aimed to challenge the misconception, which he said stems from cultural biases.

โ€œA tattoo does not make you any less of a Christian, nor does it enhance your faith,โ€ he stated.

The reverend acknowledged that tattoos often attract judgment, despite being a common cultural practice in some communities and a form of self-expression.

โ€œTattoos wonโ€™t send you to hell. Thatโ€™s not how salvation works. Iโ€™m not suggesting you go get one tomorrowโ€”itโ€™s unnecessary. But letโ€™s not make it a spiritual issue. Itโ€™s purely cultural, and in some places, itโ€™s just a normal part of life,โ€ he remarked, drawing cheers from the congregation.

Challenging Stereotypes About Music and Dreadlocks

Reverend Mwai also addressed other stereotypes, including the idea that certain hairstyles or music genres are incompatible with Christianity.

โ€œI sometimes wish I still had my long hairโ€”I would have grown dreadlocks just to show thereโ€™s nothing wrong with them,โ€ he joked, lightening the mood.

He criticized the belief that listening to secular music, like reggae or hip-hop, undermines oneโ€™s faith.

โ€œMusic is just a style. Reggae, hip-hopโ€”these are simply genres. In some cultures, church worship is done in these styles, and people are joyfully serving God. Yet, here we are making unnecessary rules,โ€ he said passionately.

    Christianity Beyond Legalism

The minister expressed concern that such rigid beliefs have turned Christianity into a set of restrictive rules, overshadowing the grace and freedom it offers.

โ€œThese cultural restrictions donโ€™t define spirituality. Whether itโ€™s your hairstyle or the music you enjoy, what matters is staying rooted in Christ. Thatโ€™s what leads to salvation,โ€ he concluded.

Reverend Mwaiโ€™s remarks encouraged believers to focus on core values of faith rather than being influenced by cultural biases or superficial judgments.

The only thing that determines whether you go to heaven or hell is your relationship with Jesus Christ. Itโ€™s about accepting Him, surrendering your life to Him, and walking in a relationship with Him and thatโ€™s what Christianity is all about โ€” not whether you have/get a tattoo, dreadlocks, listen to reggae, go to church, pay tithes etc
