William Kabogo Declares Ksh 3.01 Billion Wealth During Vetting
ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet nominee William Kabogo unveiled his impressive Ksh 3.01 billion net worth during a vetting session with the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments on Tuesday, January 14.
Kabogo detailed his wealth portfolio, including Ksh 700 million in residential properties, movable assets worth Ksh 40 million, Ksh 64 million in cash and liquid assets, Ksh 756 million in land and farms, and Ksh 1.5 billion in shares and business interests.
He also shared insights into his past ownership of a helicopter, which he sold due to infrequent use. “I owned a chopper at some point and could fly it myself as a young man. However, I sold it when I could no longer find time to use it,” he said.
Addressing Controversies
Kabogo addressed allegations linking him to the 2011 death of University of Nairobi student Mercy Keino. He denied organizing the party Keino allegedly attended, claiming he learned about her death weeks after her burial. “The Mercy Keino case is tragic. It is untrue that I invited people to a party. I was at a public restaurant with different groups, and I only heard about her passing much later,” he explained.
The nominee also refuted claims of involvement in drug trafficking, highlighting that thorough investigations had cleared his name. “I have never dealt with drugs, including hard substances like cocaine. The claims were investigated, and the police confirmed I was not culpable. Allegations linking me to Hon. Mwau as a driver were also debunked,” he stated, referencing the findings of a report tabled in Parliament.
Kabogo concluded by inviting Kenyans to review the late George Saitoti’s dossier on the matter, asserting that it contained no credible evidence against him.
