Confusion as Govt Denies Resignation of Delivery Unit Head Peter Mbae
The Government Delivery Unit (GDU) has issued a statement to clear up confusion about the resignation of its head, Peter Mbae.
The statement rejected claims that Mbae recently resigned, as reported by some media outlets, and clarified that he had left office more than six months ago, on July 11, 2024. His departure followed the Cabinet dissolution, which also removed then-Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and his team.
“Peter Mbae stopped working for Government Delivery Services (GDS) on July 11, 2024, due to the Cabinet dissolution, as his role was linked to the position held by Moses Kuria, the former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service,” the statement explained.
It also emphasized that portraying Mbae’s departure as a resignation in January 2025 is incorrect. The formal communication about the end of his contract was issued to him on July 24, 2024, by the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management.
The statement also confirmed that Mr. Lee Kyonze had been acting as the Head of GDU since July 12, 2024.

However, Mbae told Gossipa2z.com that he stands by his claim of resigning through a letter to the Chief of Staff, dated January 9. He added that the issues in his resignation letter were serious and should not be dismissed by “false claims.”
Mbae also pointed out that the letter did not specify the name of the person signing it, so he could only respond to the Head of Public Service (HOPS). He explained that his letter was addressed to the Chief of Staff because, as a senior government official, only the Chief of Staff had the authority to handle such matters.
In the resignation letter, Mbae referred to unresolved issues that he had raised with the Chief of Staff, which ultimately led to his decision to resign.
“Despite my dedication, focus, and consistency, I’ve been unable to perform my duties as intended due to ongoing unresolved issues. Therefore, my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer sustainable,” the letter stated.
“To be accountable to the people of Kenya, given the public nature of my appointment, I respectfully request to formally step down and explore other opportunities.”
