Maina Njenga Refutes Claims of Being Ruto’s Mt Kenya Point Man

Maina Njenga, the former leader of the Mungiki group, has rejected rumors that he is now President William Ruto’s representative in Kenya’s central region.

He clarified that he is focused on aligning with the people of Kenya and promoting unity, noting that he was once a supporter of the Azimio coalition and does not associate himself with the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Njenga’s name has been in the news again after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, leading some to speculate that Njenga could be planning to challenge Gachagua and lead the region in support of President William Ruto.

During an appearance on the HOT Breakfast show, Njenga rejected Gachagua’s claims that the government is behind the revival of a gang, allegedly causing chaos in the region.

Gachagua had called for MPs to petition the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the matter. In response, Njenga dismissed the idea, saying that Gachagua’s threats to involve him in the ICC were empty and meaningless. “He wants to take me to The Hague, but he is powerless. That’s just talk,” Njenga remarked.

Njenga also spoke out against the rising cases of abductions in Kenya. Recalling his own experience as a victim, he described how he was kidnapped by hooded men for seven days when he was involved in planning protests led by Raila Odinga.

He was taken far from home, about 300 kilometers, just before dinner. Njenga expressed his concern, calling the practice inhumane and urging the government to put an end to it.

He emphasized the need for the government to stop such actions, stressing that no one should have to go through such traumatic experiences.
