Gachagua Reacts to Coffin Images Shared on Social Media- Death Is Inevitable, Stop Overreacting
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared his thoughts on mortality, addressing recent social media posts showing some leaders depicted in coffins.
He expressed that everyone will face death when their time comes and questioned why such images would cause fear.
Speaking during a church service in Nairobi on Sunday, January 12, Gachagua wondered why people get so disturbed by seeing their image in a coffin.
He emphasized that being portrayed in such a way does not mean someone has died. He argued that such depictions do not justify abducting or harming those responsible for creating them.

He elaborated, saying, “Why are we so afraid of death? Everyone will die eventually. If your image is placed in a coffin, does it mean you are dead? No, it doesn’t. Death is a natural part of life, and it will come to all of us. Let’s not resort to abducting or harming our young people over caricatures. What is worse—Farah Maalim’s insults or the cartoons?”
Gachagua’s comments come after President William Ruto claimed that certain politicians are encouraging youth to create and share these coffin images online.
The President cautioned young people against being used for such purposes, warning that such actions could lead to greater harm.
He explained that creating such images could desensitize the youth to death and potentially push them toward violent behavior. “Today, you are putting leaders in coffins. Tomorrow, you might do the same to your parents or friends. After that, you could turn into killers,” President Ruto warned, urging young people to reject being influenced by politicians offering them small sums of money for such activities.
