Friends Warned Me Against Kenya Kwanza – CS Muturi Takes a Swipe at Ruto’s Government
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has caused a stir with a strong statement criticizing the government he works for.
On Sunday, January 11, Muturi expressed his discontent with the government’s handling of abductions and other unlawful actions against civilians.
He suggested that President Ruto’s government had failed to fulfill many of the promises made during the election campaign, including the commitment to prevent abductions, which were a major concern under former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Muturi appeared to regret aligning himself with Ruto’s government, mentioning that he had been warned by friends and political colleagues against joining the coalition.
“Many warned me against joining the coalition, but I believed it would be driven by the ideals of a hustler nation, aiming to do what’s best for Kenya. One of the things we criticized the past government for was the issue of abductions and extrajudicial killings, and we vowed never to allow such under our watch. Unfortunately, we are now witnessing abductions and unexplained deaths,” he said.

He also seemed to criticize the Kenya Kwanza administration for not upholding the values it promoted while seeking power.
“I joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition because their principles aligned with those of my party, the Democratic Party of Kenya,” he explained.
Muturi further shared his personal experience, revealing that his son was abducted in June 2024, despite his prominent role as Attorney General at the time. Months later, he still had no explanation for his son’s abduction by unknown individuals.
“This ordeal, along with the release of my son by unknown forces, has left me with no answers. He hasn’t been charged with any crime, and no one in the government has provided any explanation for his abduction,” he said. “It’s troubling that many young people are being abducted and killed, leaving their families in a state of confusion and grief.”
