Ruto Fires Back at Critics Over Talks of Being One-Term President
President William Ruto has addressed critics suggesting he will only serve one term as Kenya’s leader, expressing his gratitude for the chance to guide the nation.
During a church service in Dagoretti North, Nairobi, on Sunday, January 12, President Ruto shared how many people doubted he would ever achieve the presidency. He emphasized that his rise to leadership was not due to his own efforts alone but a result of divine intervention.
“There are discussions about one term, two terms, or even three terms. I want to remind everyone that some people didn’t believe I would even get one term. But who is God? I am thankful that God has allowed me to serve as the president of this country,” he stated.
The president reflected on his humble beginnings, noting that he and his family were not well-known. Despite this, he expressed pride in being the leader of Kenya, confident that his role as president was part of a divine plan. “There is work God has entrusted me to do for this country, and I am committed to fulfilling it,” he said.

President Ruto also urged Kenyans to come together and focus on nation-building, stating that no single individual or region can achieve this alone.
His remarks follow his earlier statement on January 9, where he identified his administration’s achievements as his main competitor in the 2027 General Election. He dismissed the need for political threats, affirming that his government’s policies are already improving the country’s economy.
“I call on my fellow leaders to collaborate. Politics will have its time. There is no need for unnecessary threats. When the time comes, everyone should present their ideas to the people,” he concluded.
