Ruto Sends MPs to Attack Gov’t Critics, Gachagua Confirms- “I know him well”

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has continued to criticize President William Ruto, accusing him of encouraging immorality among leaders.

Recently, President Ruto urged Kenyan parents to guide their children on moral behavior. This appeal came as a response to offensive digital cartoons created by government critics to mock him. However, speaking at a church in Nairobi on Sunday, January 12, Gachagua accused the president of hypocrisy and double standards.

Gachagua questioned why the president seemed so concerned about the moral upbringing of Kenyan children while ignoring the inappropriate behavior of politicians close to him. He alleged that many of the outspoken leaders who support Ruto are often instructed by the president to insult critics during public rallies.

“Don’t blame those leaders,” Gachagua said. “I have worked with the president, and I know him well. When you see those politicians insulting others, it’s because the president laughs at it and encourages them. He’s the one sending them to do it.”

Gachagua also accused the president of leading a group of politicians who frequently criticize and demean ordinary Kenyans. He argued that it was unfair for Ruto to expect Kenyans to act with decency when the leaders around him set such a poor example.

“He shouldn’t complain about insults,” Gachagua stated. “He started it. He insulted Uhuru Kenyatta by calling him a drunkard and called Raila Odinga a witch. Now, he’s sending his MPs to abuse Kenyans. They’re teaching young people to insult.”

Furthermore, Gachagua urged the president to stop targeting Kenyans over trivial issues like cartoons and AI-generated images mocking government officials. He emphasized that such actions only suppress freedom of expression and worsen the growing discontent among citizens.
