Blazing Inferno: Six Fires Devour 38,000 Acres Near LA
Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain six wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles, displacing thousands and cutting off power to many residents.
The largest, the Palisades Fire, ignited on Tuesday morning and has scorched over 21,500 acres between Santa Monica and Malibu.
The Eaton Fire, situated north of Pasadena, is the second largest, burning through more than 14,000 acres.
Four smaller fires—Kenneth, Lidia, Hurst, and Archer—have collectively affected roughly 2,200 acres. The newest blaze, the Archer Fire, began Friday and remains uncontained.
Health Emergency Declared Over Smoke Hazards
Officials have issued a local health emergency due to deteriorating air quality caused by heavy smoke and ash across the city. Residents are urged to stay indoors to avoid health risks.
California’s governor is calling for an independent investigation into reports that depleted fire hydrants hindered firefighting efforts in some areas.

The fires have claimed at least 11 lives and destroyed over 10,000 homes and structures. Evacuation orders near the Palisades Fire have expanded as authorities strive to manage the crisis.

Survivor Recounts the Fight to Save His Home
Ricard Weintraub, a Malibu resident, shared his harrowing experience of staying behind to protect his property. Despite warnings to evacuate, he used hoses to wet the ground and foliage, enduring painful heat and swirling embers.
“I’m not saying it was the smartest choice, but our home is still standing,” Weintraub said. However, he acknowledged the toll on his community: “Our neighbors’ homes have been destroyed. Generations of memories and livelihoods are gone.”
Weintraub’s family has evacuated to four separate locations as they plan their next steps amid the devastation.
