Parliamentary Committee to Vet Cabinet Nominees Next Week
The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments is set to hold approval hearings on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, for three Cabinet Secretary nominees chosen by President William Ruto.
The nominees are former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, ex-Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
In an official notice, the committee stated, โApproval hearings for three Cabinet Secretary nominees proposed by the President will take place on January 14, 2025, at County Hall, Parliament Buildings.โ
Mutahi Kagwe, who previously served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development. Kagwe is scheduled to appear before the committee at noon, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangโula.
At 3:00 p.m., William Kabogo, nominated for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, will face the committee. Lee Kinyanjui, proposed for the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, will follow at 5:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations vetted diplomatic nominees, including Noor Gabow (Consul General to Haiti), outgoing Agriculture CS Andrew Karanja, and ex-Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, nominated as Kenyaโs Permanent Representative to UNEP.
Outgoing ICT CS Margaret Nyambura Ndungโu declined her appointment as Kenyaโs Ambassador to Ghana, citing personal reasons. In her letter to the vetting committee, she explained, โI will not attend the approval hearing due to personal and family matters. Please consider this letter as formal notice.โ
After the hearings, the Committee on Appointments will compile a report to be presented in the National Assembly during a special sitting on Thursday, January 16. Lawmakers will then vote on the nominees.
