Rising Fear as Bodies of Two Missing Youths Found Dumped in Kiambu, Kasarani
On Saturday, January 4, two young Kenyan men were found dead, raising concerns about the increasing cases of forced disappearances in the country. The bodies were discovered in different locations: one in Kiambu County and the other in Nairobi County.
In Kiambu, residents came across the naked body of a young man lying by the roadside in Kawaida near Banana. His clothes were placed a short distance away, and the body had been wrapped in a shawl. Local authorities were immediately notified. The deceased was later identified as 27-year-old John Muchiri Muthoni, according to Vocal Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid.
Muchiri’s family reported that they lost contact with him the previous afternoon, Friday, January 3, around 3 PM. Tragically, they were informed of his death after his girlfriend received a call from an unidentified number.

The caller instructed her to collect his body from the roadside. Khalid confirmed that arrangements for a postmortem were being made, and the body had been taken to Kihara Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for further examination.
In another distressing incident, the body of 26-year-old Ian Singoe was discovered in Mwiki, Nairobi. Singoe had been missing since December 31. A family friend, speaking with the family’s permission, shared that his body had been identified and was being moved to the mortuary as police began their investigations.
These two cases follow the discovery of 24-year-old activist Ibrahim Hilal Mwiti’s body on Friday, January 3, at Thika Level V Mortuary. Mwiti had been missing since November.
These incidents highlight an alarming trend. According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), there have been 61 reported cases of police-related killings and 73 incidents of disappearances since June 2024. In December alone, seven abductions were recorded, with six individuals still unaccounted for. The total number of cases currently under investigation by KNCHR now stands at 29.
