Ibrahim Mwiti: Activist Laid to Rest Hours After Mysterious Death, Family Skips Autopsy
The family of Ibrahim Mwiti, a 24-year-old activist, recently laid him to rest in a solemn ceremony at Lang’ata Cemetery after he was found dead following months of being missing.
Ibrahim, a boda boda rider, was last seen in November, and his sudden disappearance stirred much concern and speculation about his whereabouts. His body was discovered on New Year’s Day at the Thika Level 5 Mortuary.
During the funeral, a representative shared the family’s painful journey in trying to locate him.
They had posted about him online but with no success. “We visited Kamukunji and Juja, but he was not there. It was only recently that we received a call from the Thika Morgue telling us his body was there,” said Imani Baha, an activist, at the ceremony.
Baha also mentioned that, according to their religious beliefs, the family did not want to perform an autopsy, but they were certain that Ibrahim did not die in a hit-and-run accident.

Ibrahim’s death has stirred anger across Kenya, with many blaming the government, especially Kenya Kwanza.
When he was reported missing, his family began a desperate search for him, but their hopes were crushed when they discovered his lifeless body in the morgue.
A relative explained that the delay in retrieving his body was because Ibrahim had no form of identification on him when he died, making it harder for authorities to identify him sooner.
