Health Ministry Warns Kenyans to Avoid Makuku After Mysterious Object Falls from Sky

Mary Muthoni, the Health Permanent Secretary, has cautioned Kenyans against visiting the Makuku sub-location in Makueni after a foreign object fell from the sky on December 30.

In an official statement released on Saturday, January 4, Muthoni explained that initial investigations found the object did not pose an immediate health risk. However, she advised the public to stay away from the area, avoid approaching it, and refrain from touching any unknown materials found there.

“The Ministry of Health urges people to avoid the site and not handle any unfamiliar items,” the PS said in the notice.

The Ministry has also asked residents to remain alert and report any health concerns or unusual changes in the environment to local health authorities.

On December 30, residents of Makuku village heard a loud noise from a distance and later discovered a foreign object that had fallen from the sky. Though no injuries occurred, the incident raised questions about the object’s origin and its possible impact on health and the environment.

The Kenya Space Agency clarified on December 31 that the object was a metallic ring, about 2.5 meters wide and weighing roughly 500 kilograms, which had fallen from a space object.

To prevent potential health risks, the Ministry has outlined safety protocols for handling such objects and medical steps for those who may have been exposed to harmful substances.

The Ministry is collaborating with health experts and local authorities to improve communication and address public concerns.

After the object fell, locals quickly gathered at the site, with social media photos showing them handling the object without protective gear, unaware of any danger it may pose.

The community has been offered mental health and psychological support following the incident.

The Ministry is also working on a policy framework to manage chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards in the future.

The PS assured the public that the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Kenyans.
