Thousands Storm Nandi Police Station, Injure Officers, and Kill Murder Suspect in Brutal Mob Justice
Chaos erupted in Tinderet Sub-County, Nandi County, on Thursday when thousands of furious residents armed with crude weapons stormed Chemase Police Station, demanding access to a murder suspect held there.
The mob, numbering over 3,000, overwhelmed officers on duty, leaving several injured in the melee. They vandalized the station, set a police vehicle ablaze, and looted property before extracting the suspect.
The suspect, accused of brutally murdering a 38-year-old man whose dismembered body was discovered earlier, was stoned to death by the mob, who then set his body on fire.
According to a police report, the violence began at approximately 1:30 PM. โThey maliciously damaged the lower part of the station building and burned the police vehicle, a Ford Ranger GKB127Y. After retrieving the suspect, they stoned him to death and burned his body,โ the report stated.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the crowd had pleaded with officers to release the suspect, but the police refused, adhering to their duty to uphold the law.
Tinderet Police Commander Johnson Mwariga later confirmed that the suspect had confessed to the crime and had led investigators to where he had hidden the victimโs head and other body parts.
The National Police Service (NPS) strongly condemned the incident. โWe urge the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands. Let justice follow its due course,โ said NPS spokesperson Resila Onyango.
Mob attacks on police stations have become increasingly common. In December last year, residents in Elgeyo Marakwet stormed Kaptagat Police Station, accusing officers of slaughtering and stealing domestic animals.
Authorities have called for calm and respect for the rule of law in the wake of this latest incident.
