Man Mistaken for Kibet Bull Breaks Silence on Armed ‘Police’ Abductors

A Nakuru resident has come forward to share the chilling details of a nighttime raid on his home by armed men who claimed to be police officers.

The man believes the shocking incident was a case of mistaken identity, describing it as a scene straight out of a spy thriller.

The intruders, reportedly looking for renowned cartoonist Gideon Kibet, also known as Kibet Bull, stormed his home in the early morning.

    Early Morning Chaos

Recounting the ordeal, the man said, โ€œI had dinner with my family and went to bed as usual. Around 3:30 a.m., I was jolted awake by a loud, earth-shaking bang at the door. It felt like the entire house was trembling. I couldnโ€™t imagine who could do such a thing, especially in our secure estate.โ€

Immediately, he contacted estate security, but neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, chose to observe from the safety of their windows.

Shortly after, about seven heavily armed men burst into his bedroom, pointing advanced automatic weapons.

โ€œFor the first time, I was staring down the barrel of multiple guns. When they saw me, it seemed they realized they were in the wrong house. Their weapons relaxed slightly, and I knew they had made a mistake,โ€ he revealed during an interview with NTV Kenya.

    Confusion Over Identity

The man, sitting on his bed with his hands raised, was interrogated as the armed group inspected his house. They even questioned his wife and children.

โ€œThey claimed to be police officers and asked why I didnโ€™t open the door when they called. But I didnโ€™t hear anyone,โ€ he explained.

The terrifying encounter left his wife struggling to breathe from the shock, while the assailants left after blaming him for not responding to their supposed calls.

    Police Deny Knowledge of Raid

Following the incident, the man reported the break-in to Njoro Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). However, the DCI denied involvement, stating that such an operation would have been reported to them.

    Spotlight on Kibet Bull

The armed raid reportedly targeted cartoonist Kibet Bull, known for his viral illustrations criticizing the government. When the incident occurred, Kibet was preparing to travel to Tel Aviv University in Israel for further studies.

His disappearance adds to a growing list of missing persons, with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) recording at least 28 cases since the June 2024 protests.

    The Ongoing Mystery

While the DCI disclaimed any link to the abduction, the incident has sparked a fierce debate. Lawyer Miguna Miguna and Senator Okiya Omtatah have clashed over conflicting accounts of the vehicle allegedly used in Kibetโ€™s abduction, further fueling concerns about rising disappearances in Kenya.

This incident leaves more questions than answers, as Kenyans await clarity on both the raid and Kibetโ€™s whereabouts.
