Ichung’wah Accuses Abducted Victims of Hiding in Airbnbs: ‘Shame on You’

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has expressed that the government should not be abducting people based on their social media posts.

What did Ichung’wah say about abductions?

The MP argued that if the government wants to target critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration online, there’s no need for abductions, as the Misuse of Computers and Cybercrimes Act 2018 already provides a legal way to make arrests and file charges.

“We want to challenge the DCI over the issue of people insulting others on social media. There’s a law. The Kenyan government has no right to abduct anyone for what they say online,” Ichung’wah stated.

He also claimed some of the people allegedly abducted are hiding in Airbnbs with their partners, pretending to be missing.

“I’ve seen people lock themselves inside Airbnbs with their girlfriend, hiding for three days so others believe they’ve been abducted,” he said.

Ichung’wah further alleged that some MPs have secretly met in Nyeri to plan how to disappear and make it look like they were abducted.

He seemed to imply that the recent incident involving goons throwing tear gas at an event with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was staged, criticizing the leaders involved.

“Shame on you and any other leader who thinks they can incite the people of Kenya,” he said.

Did Ruto promise to stop abductions?

This follows President William Ruto’s comments on the ongoing abductions of young Kenyans critical of the government. Speaking in Homa Bay on December 27, Ruto promised to put an end to these actions but added a condition.

He called on the youth to avoid reckless behavior that could get them into trouble and urged parents to raise responsible children who will contribute positively to society.
