DCI Responds to Senator Okiya Omtatah’s Allegations Linking It to Influencer Gideon Kibet’s Abduction

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed allegations by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah that a Subaru vehicle tied to the agency was involved in the abduction of popular X influencer Gideon Kibet.

In a statement issued on Thursday, December 26, the DCI described the claims as baseless and confirmed that investigations into the matter are underway.

“The DCI acknowledges Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti’s statement regarding the alleged use of a white Subaru in the reported abduction of Mr. Gideon Kibet. We categorically deny any involvement with the said vehicle. These accusations are unfounded and risk sensationalizing a delicate issue currently under investigation,” the agency stated.

The DCI assured the public that all its operations are conducted lawfully and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on extrajudicial activities.

The agency also revealed it is actively probing multiple reports of abductions and called for cooperation from the public.

“We are thoroughly investigating these reports and urge anyone with credible information to come forward. The DCI is committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and justice in all cases,” the statement read.

Additionally, the DCI cautioned public leaders against making unverified statements that could compromise ongoing investigations.

Senator Omtatah had earlier alleged that Kibet was abducted after leaving his Nairobi office. According to Omtatah, a white Subaru fitted with spy equipment was seen parked near his office before Kibet’s disappearance.

“I suspect DCI officers were behind the abduction. My security team noticed the vehicle monitoring communications near my office. It left shortly after Kibet departed,” Omtatah claimed.

Separately, the National Police Service (NPS) also denied any involvement in the reported abductions. Inspector General Douglas Kanja clarified that no abductees are being held in police custody.

“For clarity, the National Police Service is not involved in any abductions. No police station across the country is holding any of the individuals reported missing,” Kanja stated.

Both agencies have urged the public to avoid speculation and allow ongoing investigations to uncover the truth.
