Kenya’s Most Shocking Murders of 2024
In 2024, Kenya faced a series of harrowing murders that shook the country to its core. These heart-wrenching cases sparked widespread alarm over the safety of citizens and left countless families grieving.
In this article, Gossipa2z.com revisits the most chilling murder cases that made headlines this year.
The Tragic Murder of Rita Waeni
The brutal killing of former JKUAT student Rita Waeni on January 14, 2024, remains one of the most horrific crimes in Kenya’s history.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the post-mortem, described it as the most horrifying case he had ever encountered. His shaken demeanor during a press briefing underscored the immense suffering Waeni endured.
Her dismembered body was found in garbage bags at an apartment on TRM Drive, Kasarani, with her head missing. Days later, detectives recovered a human head, believed to be hers, from a dam in Kiambaa, Kiambu County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since released a photo of the prime suspect and appealed to the public for assistance in locating him.
Starlet Wahu Murder at Airbnb
A middle-aged man was arrested by Industrial Area cops after the shocking death of 24-year-old social media starlet, Wahu, at a South B Airbnb.
CCTV footage showed Wahu, dressed in a sizzling red mini-dress, walking hand-in-hand with the man into the apartment on the night of the tragedy.
The next morning, the building manager called the police, reporting a gruesome discovery—Wahu’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood in the living room.
The apartment was locked from the outside, forcing police to break in. Inside, they found signs of a violent struggle: bruises, stab wounds, and blood everywhere.
The scene was chilling: a knife suspected to be the murder weapon, used condoms, booze, the victim’s clothes, and an HIV test kit showing both tested negative.
Detectives tracked the suspect to a nearby hospital, where he was being treated for a stab wound. He’s now in custody as cops piece together the motive behind the brutal killing.
The Murder of Kirinyaga MCA Lucy Njeri’s Daughter
In October 2024, Lucy Njeri, a nominated Kirinyaga MCA, revealed the tragic murder of her 23-year-old daughter, Seth Nyakio Njeri.
Nyakio’s lifeless body was discovered in a rented house in Thika, Kiambu County, with visible injuries on her neck. According to police, the Zetech University graduate was sexually assaulted before being strangled.
On November 14, DCI identified the prime suspect, Ken Kimathi Gichunuku, alias Sultan, who fled after the crime. Authorities are seeking information to apprehend him.
Kware Dumpsite Murders
In July 2024, the discovery of nine mutilated bodies at a dumpsite in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi, sent shockwaves across the nation.
President William Ruto ordered the DCI to expedite investigations, leading to the arrest of Collins Jumaisi on July 15. Jumaisi confessed to luring and killing 42 women, but on August 20, he escaped from police custody at Gigiri Police Station.
A cash reward has been offered for any information leading to his recapture.
The Eastleigh Triple Homicide
On October 21, 2024, three women from Eastleigh, Nairobi, were brutally murdered—Waris Daud (39), her daughter Amina Abdirashid (22), and her niece Nuseiba Dahir (13).
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that the women were tortured before their deaths, each in a different manner: suffocation, stabbing, and throat-slitting.
CCTV footage linked Hashim Dagane Muhumed to the murders, showing him driving a car that picked up the victims before their disappearance. He was arrested on November 3.
The Murder of Wells Fargo Manager Willis Ayieko
The disappearance of Willis Ayieko, a former Wells Fargo HR Manager, on October 18, 2024, ended tragically when his body was found near a stream in Yala, Siaya County, on October 23.
An autopsy revealed head injuries, brain bleeding, and bruised wrists, indicating Ayieko’s hands were tied before his death. Parts of his body were reportedly eaten by animals after it was discarded.
Several suspects have been arrested, and the case is currently in court.
These cases highlight the rising security challenges in Kenya and the need for swift justice. As the nation grieves, authorities continue their efforts to bring the perpetrators to account.
