IPOA Deploys Rapid Response Teams after Abductions in Several Counties
Three Kenyan families are facing a somber Christmas following the mysterious disappearances of their loved ones, allegedly abducted under unclear circumstances.ย ย
Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti, and Billy Mwangi are among those reported missing, with CCTV footage showing them being taken by force. Their sudden disappearances came after they posted controversial content on social media, sparking nationwide outrage.
Accusations of police involvement in the abductions have grown louder, prompting the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to intervene. IPOA confirmed receiving reports of at least five abductions in Kajiado, Nairobi, and Embu.

โUnder Section 6(a) of the IPOA Act, we are mandated to investigate complaints against the National Police Service (NPS). Rapid Response Teams have been deployed to gather critical information on these incidents,โ IPOA said.
The agency vowed to recommend prosecutions, disciplinary action, or other remedies if police officers are found guilty. IPOA further urged Inspector General Douglas Kanja to address the alarming trend.
Despite the mounting allegations, IG Kanja denied police involvement. Speaking to Citizen TV, he emphasized, โPolice are trained to uphold citizens’ rights, and abductions are against our principles.โ
Meanwhile, fears escalated on Wednesday evening as reports emerged about the disappearance of cartoonist Kibet Bull and his brother, further fueling public concern.
The rising number of abduction cases has left Kenyans demanding accountability and action to restore safety and trust.
