Tragedy in Kazakhstan: Plane Crash Leaves Many Feared Dead
A tragic plane crash occurred near Aktau, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday, involving an Embraer passenger jet operated by Azerbaijan Airlines.
The aircraft, en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members.
Kazakh authorities confirmed 32 survivors, including two children, while rescue teams are recovering the bodies of the deceased.
Dramatic, unverified footage shows the plane engulfed in flames upon impact along the Caspian Sea shoreline, followed by thick plumes of smoke. Passengers, bloodied and injured, were seen escaping from remnants of the fuselage.
Kazakhstan’s emergency services extinguished the fire, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Embraer 190 jet, flight J2-8243, reportedly attempted an emergency landing about 3 km from Aktau following a bird strike, according to Russia’s aviation authority.
Flight tracking data shows the plane deviating from its scheduled route along the Caspian Sea’s west coast before reappearing near Aktau, where it circled before crashing onto the beach.
A government-led commission has been formed in Kazakhstan to investigate the incident, with officials coordinating support for victims’ families. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan pledged to cooperate on the investigation.
Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan expressed condolences, with Aliyev cutting short his visit to Russia to address the tragedy.
Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, shared his sympathies, noting that some survivors remain in critical condition and require prayers for recovery.
