The meeting comes after Raila Odinga embarked on a tour across Africa, meeting with several African Heads of State to seek support for his bid for the AUC chairperson’s seat.
The election for this role is scheduled to take place in February 2025, and Raila’s campaign has gained considerable attention across the continent.

Additionally, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed on Monday that the Kenyan government is financially supporting Raila’s campaign for the AUC chairmanship.
Mwaura reassured the public that the government has allocated a reasonable amount of funds for the campaign, underlining its commitment to Raila’s candidacy and the broader goal of strengthening Africa’s leadership structures.
Raila’s bid for the AUC chair is expected to be competitive, as he will face strong contenders, including Mahamoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti and Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar.
The race for this influential position is anticipated to be highly contested, with each candidate vying to take the African Union to greater heights in its efforts to address the continent’s challenges and opportunities.
