Rigathi Gachagua Unmasks Officer Who Tracked Him for 180 Km

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the government to recall a vehicle and an intelligence officer he claims is shadowing him.

Gachagua alleged that the officer trailed him to Kalawa Ward in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, where he attended a burial on Wednesday. The journey from Nairobi to Makueni spans approximately 200 kilometers.

In a statement, he urged the government to redirect the officer and the vehicle, whose image he shared, to tasks that could bolster national security, criticizing the resource wastage involved in following him.

He remarked, “Fuel and man hours were unnecessarily spent trailing me from Nairobi to Makueni.”

The former deputy president accused the government of deploying officers to monitor his activities, a claim he linked to his ongoing critique of the administration despite his past prominence as the self-proclaimed “King of the Mountain.”

Gachagua proposed cost-saving measures, suggesting that officers based in Makueni could gather intelligence locally instead of engaging in long-distance surveillance.

In a social media post, he revealed the vehicle and officer allegedly involved in trailing him, emphasizing his concern over persistent surveillance.

This is not Gachaguaโ€™s first accusation of state security interference. Following his impeachment in October 2024, he claimed unmarked cars were tailing him and tracking visitors to his Nairobi and Nyeri homes. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), however, denied these allegations.

In November, Gachagua likened the alleged surveillance to methods used during President Daniel Arap Moi’s regime under the โ€˜Special Branch.โ€™ He declared that the government should be held responsible if harm befalls him.

Looking ahead, Gachagua announced plans to outline his political direction and that of his supporters in January next year.

On Wednesday, he also expressed an openness to collaborating with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for a potential coalition ahead of the 2027 elections. However, he challenged Kalonzo to double the Ukambani regionโ€™s voter turnout, asserting that the existing two million votes were insufficient to secure the presidency.

โ€œPolitics and leadership are about numbers. If you want us to form a government together, your youth must register to vote,โ€ Gachagua emphasized.
