President Ruto Reshuffles Cabinet: Murkomen Named Interior CS, Kagwe Returns to Agriculture
President William Ruto has nominated Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen to serve as the Interior Cabinet Secretary in a significant reshuffle of senior Executive roles.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed announced the changes on Thursday, revealing that Murkomen will replace Kithure Kindiki, the former Interior CS who is now the Deputy President.
The notice emphasized that the reshuffle aligns with the President’s vision for strengthening the Cabinet and the Foreign Service.
Murkomen steps in as Interior CS, taking over from Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who held the position temporarily after Kindiki’s transition.
Additionally, former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe is set to return as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, pending approval. Kagwe is poised to succeed Dr. Andrew Karanja, the current officeholder.
Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was also nominated to lead the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, replacing Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u.
Meanwhile, ex-Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has been tapped to head the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, succeeding Salim Mvurya, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.
The Ministry of Interior remains one of the most influential portfolios, entrusted with critical responsibilities such as maintaining internal security and overseeing national registration services.
Typically, this position is reserved for close allies of the president, reflecting its political significance.

Murkomen’s former role as Sports CS is now set to be taken over by Salim Mvurya, the outgoing CS for Investment, Trade, and Industry.
Cabinet Secretary appointments involve a structured process, beginning with nominations by the President, followed by vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments.
This committee evaluates candidates’ qualifications and expertise to determine their suitability.
In a statement, the President affirmed his compliance with legal protocols, having forwarded the nominations of Cabinet Secretaries, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, and Permanent Representatives to Parliament for approval.
