Namwamba, Muriithi Score Big in Ruto’s New State Appointments

On Thursday, President William Ruto announced a new wave of appointments affecting both State corporations and Kenyaโ€™s diplomatic missions. The details were outlined in a statement issued by the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.

Among the significant changes, former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has been named Kenyaโ€™s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).

This strategic role places Namwamba at the helm of Kenyaโ€™s engagements with these key international organizations.

Margaret Nyambura Ndungโ€™u, who recently vacated her position as ICT Cabinet Secretary following her replacement by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, has been appointed as Kenyaโ€™s High Commissioner to Ghana.

Similarly, Dr. Andrew Karanja, who previously served in the Agriculture Ministry but was succeeded by Mutahi Kagwe, will now serve as Kenyaโ€™s Ambassador to Brazil.

In another diplomatic reshuffle, Ambassador Gertrude N. Angote has been assigned to lead Kenyaโ€™s High Commission in Zimbabwe.

President Ruto also made pivotal changes within State corporations. Former Laikipia Governor and Raila Odingaโ€™s campaign chairperson during the 2022 presidential race, Ndiritu Muriithi, has been appointed Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Board.

He succeeds Anthony Mwaura, who has transitioned to serve as Chairperson of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority.

Additionally, Kembi Gitura, the former head of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), has been selected as the new Board Chair of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

His appointment comes in the wake of Prof. Olive Mugendaโ€™s resignation from the same role, a move reportedly linked to ongoing labor disputes and employee strikes at the facility.

These appointments underscore President Rutoโ€™s focus on reshaping leadership within key institutions and strengthening Kenyaโ€™s representation on the global stage.
