DCI Unmasks ‘Azimio Protests’ Violence Criminals, 33 Officers Hospitalised, AK47 Stolen.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released images of suspects believed to be responsible for the disorder and violence witnessed on Monday during anti-government protests led by the Azimio opposition coalition, and a manhunt is currently underway.

Friday, the DCI’s social media account published a series of images revealing the identities of individuals it identifies as criminals who took advantage of the protests to damage property and attack innocent members of the public and on-duty police officers.

According to the DCI, during the Monday protests led by the Azimio party leader Raila Odinga, property of unknown value was destroyed and a total of 33 officers sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently hospitalized.

“Criminals who took advantage of the demonstrations were caught on camera destroying public property, assaulting innocent members of the public, and throwing projectiles at police officers who were on duty protecting life and property.

“As a result, property of unknown value was destroyed, and 33 officers sustained injuries of varying degrees; some are still recovering in various city hospitals,” the DCI said.

During the chaos, it has been reported that an AK47 with 15 rounds of ammunition was also stolen.

“One of our officers lost a firearm whose magazine was loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm caliber after he was attacked by a well-coordinated riotous mob in the Embakasi area of Nairobi County,” the DCI added.

Consequently, the individuals depicted in the shared images must report to the DCI headquarters or the nearest police stations.

In the meantime, the DCI has requested information from the general public that could lead to the suspects’ arrest.
