On Wednesday, December 11, former President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed diplomats from the US Embassy and the British High Commission.

According to a statement from Kanze Dena, the Spokesperson at the Office of the 4th President, Uhuru hosted the diplomats at his residence in Gatundu.

The statement further noted that the US Embassy delegation was headed by Marc Dillard, the new Chargรฉ d’Affaires, while Ambassador Neil Wigan led the British High Commission team in a separate meeting.

The discussions during the meetings focused on Uhuru’s mediation role between factions in the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of the Nairobi Peace Process.

Since retiring in 2022, Uhuru has been involved in various peace initiatives across the continent, with a primary focus on the peace processes in the DRC and Ethiopia.

The meeting with the diplomats took place shortly after Uhuruโ€™s meeting with President William Ruto, who visited him on December 9.

During the December 9 meeting, Ruto praised Uhuru for his significant contributions to peace efforts in the East African Community (EAC).

“The leaders acknowledged the need for a wider and more inclusive political consensus in the country’s governance to accelerate inclusive growth and achieve the national development agenda,” said a statement from Uhuru’s office.

โ€œThe two leaders also recognized Kenyaโ€™s pivotal role in fostering peace and security in East Africa through diplomatic and peace-support initiatives, which are vital in resolving conflicts, restoring peace, and ensuring regional stability.โ€
