Ruto Reveals Why He Reached Out to Uhuru
President William Ruto has shed light on his decision to meet with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During a visit to Wajir County on Tuesday, December 10, Ruto revealed that he reached out to his predecessor to resolve differences that arose before the 2022 elections.
He emphasized his goal of fostering unity with Uhuru to strengthen the cohesion of the nation.
The President highlighted the importance of collective efforts among Kenyans, regardless of past disputes, to work together toward a unified future.
“There is no need to perpetuate divisive politics. Tribalism and differences are behind us. We want a united Kenya,” Ruto stated during the event.

He further explained, “This is why I reached out to Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and, yesterday, also spoke with former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Our focus is to bridge our differences and collaboratively build our nation.”
Ruto’s remarks followed his meeting with Uhuru, who had opposed his candidacy during the presidential race.
According to the State House, their discussions centered on national and regional priorities, including Raila’s candidacy at the African Union Commission.
Uhuru noted that their conversation also addressed issues raised by citizens, such as taxation and the reorganization of the electoral body.
“Former President Uhuru agreed to offer counsel, either privately or otherwise, in support of efforts aimed at fostering a prosperous, united, and stable nation,” a statement from his office read.
President Ruto, in turn, committed to engaging all stakeholders to reduce unnecessary tensions and promote reconciliation. He emphasized that election-related conflicts were in the past and urged the nation to focus on building a shared future.
