Trump Vows to Refuse Presidential Salary After Taking Office

Donald Trump, the President-Elect of the United States, has reiterated his pledge to forgo his presidential salary upon taking office.

In an interview with NBC News journalist Kristen Welker, Trump confirmed that he would not accept the annual compensation tied to his role as president.

How Much Does Trump Earn Annually?

The businessman-turned-politician stated that the U.S. president earns an annual salary of approximately KSh 58 million (US$450,000). However, Trump made it clear that he would not be pocketing this amount.

He explained:
“I am not going to accept a salary, and I am giving up a lot of money. Do you know what amazes me? Maybe this is not even right. Other than George Washington—and I am not sure about that—every other person has accepted their salary except me. I don’t think I accepted anything. The president gets about US$450,000 a year, and I did not take it. And by the way, I get no credit for that, but that’s okay. For me, it is the nice thing to do.”

Trump also reflected on his decision not to take a salary during his first term as president in 2016, expressing surprise that other presidents with substantial wealth still chose to accept theirs.

“I think I am surprised. Not one president has done that. They say they think George Bush, but even the records aren’t too good,” he added.

Why Kenyans Support Trump

In a related report, a survey conducted by Gossipa2z.com revealed that 69.3% of Kenyan respondents favored Trump winning the U.S. presidency, while only 30.7% supported Kamala Harris.

During his campaign, Trump criticized Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for policies that he claimed increased the cost of living. His approach to managing the U.S. economy resonated with voters, helping him secure 266 Electoral College votes and derailing Harris’s aspiration to become the first female president.
