Kalonzo Breaks Silence on Leaked IEBC Audio by Itumbi
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly responded following a leak within his camp after a controversial audio recording of him went viral.
The audio, shared by Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy at State House, criticized Kalonzo for blaming President William Ruto for the delay in reconstituting a new electoral commission.
In the recording, Kalonzo discusses the appointment of National Liberal Party leader Augustus Kyalo Muli, who was selected by the Political Parties Liaison Committee to represent Azimio on the IEBC selection panel.
Kalonzo, who opposed Augustus’ appointment and supported Wiper’s Koki Muli instead, has been vocal about his preference for a different representative.
At a media briefing at SKM Command Centre in Nairobi, Kalonzo acknowledged the authenticity of the audio but downplayed its significance, claiming it was being used by his opponents to push their own agenda.

He said, “Maybe I can invite you (the media) and share my thoughts on the government’s delaying tactics. But if I do, do not record me and forward it to Itumbi.” He added, “People are desperate, absolutely desperate.”
When asked about the content of the audio, Kalonzo explained, “I said Muli is one of us. He comes from my home country. I certainly wish him well, but let him not be used as a proxy to delay a pressing national matter.”
Kalonzo emphasized that Azimio had agreed on Koki Muli for the panel and that the coalition had been given 48 hours to submit a name for consideration.
Despite the ongoing court case involving his ally, Ambassador Muli, Kalonzo insists that he has no involvement in the delays surrounding the IEBC reconstitution.
In August, Augustus filed a lawsuit against Azimio la Umoja, challenging his removal from the list of political party nominees for the panel. This legal action led to a delay in the panel’s formation, with a court order halting the appointment until the case was resolved.
