Farouk Kibet’s Chepsaita Cross Country: Prize Money Revealed
The Great Chepsaita Cross Country unfolded on Saturday, December 7, in Uasin Gishu County, attracting significant attention from athletes and officials alike.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led top government officials at the event, which saw over 10,000 runners vie for top honors. Renowned athletes, including Eliud Kipchoge and Faith Kipyegon, also graced the occasion with their presence.
Victors of the 2024 Chepsaita Cross Country
Loice Chekwemoi and Samwel Chebolei emerged victorious, clinching the prestigious titles of this year’s edition in an electrifying performance.
Representing Uganda, Chekwemoi completed the women’s elite race in 34:32, outpacing Ethiopia’s Mekides Molla and Kenya’s Celestine Biwot. On the men’s side, Chebolei clocked 30:49 to secure the win, with Kiprop Koech and Naibei Kiplimo finishing second and third, respectively.

Junior Race Champions
In the junior men’s U20 8km category, Kelvin Kiprop triumphed over world U20 5000m champion Andrew Alamisi, who finished second, while Edwin Sanutia claimed third. Cynthia Chepkurui dominated the women’s U20 6km, followed by Yvonne Jepchirchir and Joyline Chepkemoi.
Chepsaita Cross Country Prize Purse
The total prize fund for the event was an impressive 6 million Kenya shillings, overseen by President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet.
The top three finishers in the men’s and women’s elite categories will receive Sh300,000, Sh250,000, and Sh150,000, respectively, with rewards extended to the top 15 athletes. In the junior races, podium finishers will earn Sh60,000, Sh40,000, and Sh30,000, with prizes available for the top 30 athletes.
In line with its ‘Run for Education’ theme, the event will allocate 1 million shillings to each of 10 local schools, enhancing educational opportunities in the region, according to Star Sports.
