DCI Calls Senator Thang’wa for Questioning

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

A letter dated November 28 notified Thang’wa to report to the Nyeri Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) on Friday, November 29, at 10:00 a.m.

The letter stated that the senator was being called in connection to the disturbances at a funeral in Limuru, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was present.

In the letter, CI Joseph Chirchir, a police officer assigned to DCI Limuru, mentioned that investigations were underway regarding alleged malicious damage to property and injury to persons at Bibirioni Boys High School playground on November 28, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. The officer indicated that Senator Thang’wa may have information vital to the ongoing investigation.

“You are required to appear before the Nyeri RCIO on November 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. without fail,” the letter read.

Thang’wa responded to the summons, asserting that he would not be intimidated but would comply with the order.

“They refuse to meet us at the CID headquarters on Kiambu Road, yet they shamelessly summon us to Nyeri over an incident in Limuru. This intimidation will not silence us. Iโ€™ll see you in Nyeri tomorrow at 10 a.m.,” Thang’wa said.

Addressing the events in Limuru, the senator described the incident as an assassination attempt on the former deputy president.

“We are here to declare that this was an attempt on Rigathi Gachaguaโ€™s life, and such actions are only happening in Mt. Kenya,” Thang’wa alleged.
