Chaos Erupts at Limuru Burial: DCI Launches Probe Where Gachagua Was Attacked
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) spent most of Friday interrogating leaders and members of the public who attended the chaotic burial ceremony in Limuru, where goons attacked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and mourners.
Investigators dedicated over eight hours to uncovering the events, with a particular focus on Limuru legislator John Kiragu, questioning him about his alleged role in the disruption that briefly halted the burial proceedings.
Authorities probed why the first-term MP reportedly avoided the VIP tent targeted by the attackers, opting instead to sit with mourners in a different tent.
The legislator denied these allegations, asserting that he was also a victim during the chaos.
Meanwhile, DCI officers in Limuru continued gathering witness accounts in Bibirioni village, including questioning family members directly affected by the incident.

The grieving family not only faces the emotional toll of losing a loved one but also the destruction of property caused by the unrest.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja’s office confirmed receiving only one public complaint about the incident.
Additionally, the IG’s office stated it was unaware of former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi’s whereabouts, despite claims from allies of former DP Gachagua that he was abducted by police.
Although the attackers operated openly and were easily identifiable, law enforcement has yet to make any arrests.
Meanwhile, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, who was present at the burial, skipped a summons by investigators in Nyeri, questioning the jurisdictional handling of the case.
Police have classified the incident as politically motivated.
