MP Mwengi Mutuse Sends Message to Rigathi Gachagua

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse sharply criticized impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Saturday, condemning his persistent legal efforts to overturn his impeachment.

Speaking at the funeral of Mama Lenah Gaciri, mother of George Murugara in Tharaka Nithi County, Mutuse urged Gachagua to rely on wisdom rather than seeking alternative ways to reclaim his position as the nation’s second-in-command.

As the driving force behind the motion to impeach Gachagua, Mutuse admitted that he had refrained from publicly discussing the issue but felt compelled to speak out due to recent developments.

“Since our work at the National Assembly moved to the Senate, I’ve been careful not to address this matter in public, not wanting to get ahead of myself. If I don’t speak on it here, please bear with me,” Mutuse explained.

Mutuse advised Gachagua to exercise discernment regarding his next steps, given the decision of both legislative houses to impeach him.

“The Europeans have a saying that even strength must yield to wisdom. So if Gachagua, regardless of his vigor, is wise, he’ll see that Kenya operates as a democracy,” Mutuse stated.

According to Mutuse, Parliament’s actions reflect the people’s will, and he urged Gachagua to respect this decision by accepting the outcome.

He further asked Gachagua to consider the overwhelming number of MPs who voted for his impeachment in both the Senate and the National Assembly, even as he pursues court action.

“Kenya is a democracy based on the Constitutional framework we established in 2010, where numbers matter,” he emphasized.

“With 282 MPs voting for change against 44, and 53 Senators favoring it against 13, numbers in a democracy carry weight,” Mutuse added.

Mutuse’s remarks come as Gachagua intensifies his court fight to reverse his impeachment and prevent Kindiki’s swearing-in.

Recently, Gachagua secured a High Court order in Kerugoya, halting Kindiki’s swearing-in, which was set to follow his nomination’s approval by the National Assembly.
