Rigathi Gachagua Issues Stark Warning to Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua delivered a warning to President William Ruto on Sunday, cautioning that the Mt. Kenya region—his home base—will not forget the alleged orchestration of his impeachment.

Gachagua, speaking on October 27 at Saint James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu County, criticized aspects of the Nation’s current state while urging Kenyans to pray for President Ruto, whom he noted faces significant challenges.

“I call on Kenyans to pray for wisdom for President Ruto to help him navigate the issues impacting our country,” Gachagua remarked.

Despite his stern message, Gachagua appeared notably calmer after weeks of tense confrontations with the National Assembly, the Senate, and now, the High Court.

Reflecting on his tumultuous exit from government, Gachagua pledged to reveal details when the time is right, saying, “We forgive, but we don’t forget. Some claim three years is a long time and that by 2027 people will forget, but we remember the suffering under colonial rule and President Moi. When the moment is right, we will address this. For now, we’ll stay silent.”

He went on to highlight several issues facing the country, urging the President to take corrective action. “Our people feel overwhelmed by economic hardships, excessive taxation, and failing healthcare. The President has a monumental task. We pray for his wisdom so Kenyans can feel some relief.”

Gachagua attended the service with several allies, including staunch supporter Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa.

His political future remains uncertain, with his reinstatement as Deputy President now contingent on a case awaiting judgment in the High Court.

In a recent setback, a three-judge bench—Freda Mugambi, Eric Ogola, and Anthony Mrima—declined to step down from hearing the case regarding his impeachment.

Meanwhile, President Ruto has been notably reserved on the situation with Gachagua, prompting public speculation on his intentions.

During a recent speech on October 25, President Ruto appeared to reference the fallout, condemning “divisive politics” and stating, “I established a government to unite Kenyans, not divide them along ethnic lines. Was it wrong to appoint Beatrice Askul as a Cabinet Secretary?” referring to his appointment of Beatrice Askul as CS for East African Community (EAC) and ASAL Areas.
