Gachagua Replacement Will Come From the Mountain, Sure Bet – Oscar Sudi
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi sought to address potential tensions in Mt. Kenya following the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, assuring the region that should Gachagua be ousted, his successor would still be from the area.
In a statement on his official social media channels, Sudi, a key ally of President William Ruto, emphasized the importance of the Mt. Kenya region within the Kenya Kwanza government, making it highly unlikely for the region to be sidelined.
Despite previous disputes with Gachagua, Sudi clarified that President Ruto’s faction has no issues with Mt. Kenya leaders except for Gachagua himself. “No one has an issue with the majority of leaders from the mountain, save for one. Even his replacement will surely come from the mountain. Sure bet,” Sudi posted.
This statement followed Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse’s Tuesday motion to impeach Gachagua, which garnered support from 291 lawmakers, exceeding the required 117 votes for impeaching a deputy president.
Some Mt. Kenya leaders have accused President Ruto of allegedly orchestrating Gachagua’s impeachment. While the motion gains traction, Ruto has remained silent, leaving Gachagua’s supporters and the public in suspense.

At a press conference on Wednesday, several Mt. Kenya leaders from Murang’a County, led by Senator Joe Nyutu, questioned Ruto’s silence, alleging that the impeachment motion was a political tactic aimed at weakening Gachagua ahead of the 2027 elections.
“This (Gachagua’s impeachment) would not have happened without Ruto’s blessing. They should know that divorcing Gachagua is divorcing the mountain,” Senator Nyutu stated.
He added, “We advocate for dialogue; let the two leaders resolve their issues peacefully.”
The impeachment motion against Gachagua accuses the deputy president of multiple constitutional violations, including inciting ethnic tension, abusing his authority, and intimidating state officers.
Additionally, Gachagua faces accusations of using his position for personal business interests and illegally acquiring wealth.
Although Gachagua has not yet responded to the motion, he previously indicated his readiness to face the outcome.
