Kibwezi West lawmaker Mwengi Mutuse has outlined the basis for his impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which was presented in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
DP Gachagua is accused of misusing his position and significantly breaching the Constitution.
In the extensive document, Mutuse claims to provide evidence supporting the reasons for the impeachment motion.
Among the allegations is the rapid accumulation of wealth, with Mutuse asserting that DP Gachagua has amassed Ksh.5.2 billion in just two years, a feat deemed implausible for a public servant within such a short period.
Specifics include the acquisition of Outspan Hotel in Aberdares for Ksh.535 million in September 2023, just a year after his inauguration.
Additional properties linked to the Deputy President include Olive Gardens Hotel and Queens Gate Serviced Apartments in Nairobi, Vipingo Beach Resort in Kilifi, and Treetops Hotel in Nyeri.
The motion also highlights Gachagua’s unexpected purchase of 40 acres in Kamburaini, Nyeri, where he reportedly built a helicopter landing pad. Furthermore, he is noted for acquiring 80 acres in Meru, a dairy farm in Nyandarua, and land in Embakasi, Nairobi, through intermediary companies.

He faces allegations of engaging proxy companies to participate in a Ksh.3.7 billion tender for mosquito nets, a contract reportedly tainted by corruption.
Gachagua is accused of pressuring KEMSA to award the tender to Crystal Ltd., a company alleged to have submitted a fraudulent bid bond in an effort to illegally obtain public assets.
Additionally, the Deputy President is charged with redirecting a contractor assigned to the Kilifi-Malindi road project to instead pave a private road leading to the Vipingo Beach Resort, a hotel he purportedly acquired.
The mover of the motion asserts that taxpayers have suffered losses amounting to millions due to costly renovations at his official residences in Karen and Mombasa.
Allegedly, Ksh.100 million was spent on a red carpet for the DP’s events and other related costs.
He also faces serious allegations of violating the Constitution through incendiary statements that undermine national unity and foster ethnic profiling, which contradicts his oath of office. According to the mover, he has breached Articles 147(1) and 152(1) of the Constitution.
Additional grounds for the motion include attacks on High Court Judge Esther Maina and NIS Director Noordin Haji.
