Senator Files Censure Motion Against President Ruto
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has introduced a censure motion targeting President William Ruto.
In the motion submitted to the Clerk of the Senate on October 1, Maanzo accused President Ruto of neglecting his duty to protect citizens amid rising cases of police brutality and torture.
The Senator, elected under the Wiper party, also criticized the President for not fully implementing devolution as outlined in the law.
“William Samoei Ruto, the President of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, is responsible under Article 131 and as Chairperson of the National Security Council to protect Kenyans. He has failed to shield citizens from police brutality and killings, reduced funding to counties, and delayed financial support to devolved units, causing severe suffering to Kenyans in sectors like Health and Agriculture, as required by Schedule Four of the constitution,” the motion stated in part.

Additionally, Maanzo claimed that President Ruto introduced policies that lacked equity among Kenyans. He specifically pointed to initiatives like the affordable housing program and the Social Health Authority (SHA).
As a result, Maanzo urged his fellow senators to support the motion, showing disapproval of President Ruto’s conduct and governance.
“Therefore, the Senate, according to standing order 101(1), expresses dissatisfaction and disapproval of H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, as the President of Kenya, and censures him,” the motion urged.
The censure motion comes shortly after a similar one was filed against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua is also facing possible impeachment, with a motion to oust him set to be presented to the National Assembly on Tuesday afternoon by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
