Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Arrested by DCI

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been detained by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers in Nairobi.

Waititu’s lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, told Gossipa2z.com that the former Governor was conducting his daily activities along the Eastern Bypass when he was apprehended unexpectedly.

Currently, Waititu is being held at DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road, Nairobi, accompanied by his lawyer and former CS Eugene Wamalwa.

โ€œMy client has been detained by DCI officers, and we are presently at their headquarters here in Nairobi,โ€ Ndegwa said to Gossipa2z.com.

Waititu faces accusations of making alleged hate speech during a prior event in his native Kikuyu language at a function in Kiambu County.

โ€œThey have informed us that his arrest relates to alleged hate speech made in Kikuyu,โ€ Ndegwa added.

The lawyer claims the arrest by DCI detectives was a tactic to have Waititu incriminate himself and has advised his client to remain silent, citing protections under the Kenyan Constitution.

He further argued that the arrest was unrelated to the accusations, instead suggesting it was intended to limit his clientโ€™s freedom of speech, a right protected by law.

โ€œIโ€™ve instructed him to remain silent as these claims are unfounded, and it appears this is a strategy to stifle his freedom of speech as protected by the constitution,โ€ he noted.

The legal team also reported that the officers managing the case insisted on keeping Waititu in custody while they finalized preliminary investigations.

Ndegwa mentioned they are in talks with detectives, seeking his clientโ€™s release.

โ€œWeโ€™ve requested bail or bond, and we are still here awaiting further directives,โ€ he shared with this writer.

Waititu, a known ally of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has previously shown public support for Gachagua, a factor that may have contributed to his arrest.
