Moi’s Grandson Jailed for Defying Child Support Orders

A Nakuru court has handed Collins Kibet, grandson of the late President Daniel Moi, a seven-day jail sentence for failing to comply with child support orders.

Kibet was taken into custody on Wednesday following a child support complaint. He had been neglecting his financial responsibilities toward his two children.

Nakuru Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion delivered the sentence, citing Kibet’s failure to meet his child support obligations to his estranged wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi.

The ruling included a directive for Kibet to be detained at Nakuru GK Prison.

Additionally, Magistrate Kibelion instructed Kibet’s legal team to calculate the total outstanding child support payments and notify the defense within three days.

The court will review the case on September 26, 2024, to ensure compliance with the orders.

Authorities apprehended Kibet on Wednesday in Ongata Rongai after a seven-month manhunt.

Kibet had been evading arrest since early this year after a warrant was issued against him.

His legal troubles date back to 2021 when his estranged wife accused him of neglecting their children’s financial needs.

At that time, Kibet claimed financial hardship, stating he was living off the charity of others and couldn’t support his children.

He is also facing accusations of neglecting the children’s school fees at Mustard Seed International School, disrupting their education, and causing them emotional distress.

Through her lawyer, Elizabeth Wangari, Tagi requested the court to imprison Kibet for failing to adhere to court summons concerning the child support case.
