Airport Chaos: Armed Men Ignite Presidential Jet(Video)

Bamako: A video has emerged depicting armed men attacking Mali’s Modibo Keita International Airport and setting fire to a presidential jet.

This event unfolded on Tuesday, September 17, amidst a significant assault on Bamako, the capital, which was followed by retaliatory strikes by local vigilantes.

    Who are the armed attackers?

Al-Jazeera reports that the Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jamaโ€™at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) has taken responsibility for the airport assault and the attack on a military training facility.

Maliโ€™s government has, however, announced that the attackers have been repelled and that the situation is now under control.

โ€œEarly this morning, there was a sophisticated infiltration attempt at the gendarmerie school. Since the initial gunfire, forces have been mobilized, and we have regained control,โ€ stated General Oumar Diarra, the Military Chief of Staff.

The BBC also noted that the attack resulted in several Malian military officers being killed, with many others hospitalized due to injuries.

In another incident, a Delta Air Lines plane and an Endeavor Air Flight 5526 jet, both preparing for departure, collided at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the USA.

The Delta flight, heading to Tokyo, was taxiing when its wingtip struck the tail of the Endeavor Air jet, which was bound for Louisiana, causing the jet’s tail to detach.

No injuries were reported from the collision.

The Delta Air Lines aircraft was carrying 222 passengers, while the other plane had journalists onboard who were en route to cover a hurricane.

Passengers described a loud noise and a sudden jolt, but aviation experts indicate that the collisionโ€™s impact was mitigated by the low speeds of both aircraft.
