Ruto Meets Nyeri MPs at State House, No Gachagua
The ongoing political tension between President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was evident on Wednesday as the President met with Nyeri MPs from Gachagua’s home region without his deputy present.
This State House meeting, which involved Nyeri legislators and the President, highlighted the growing rift between the two leaders, showcasing the depth of their political discord.
Given Gachagua’s seniority in Nyeri, it was anticipated that he would have participated in the meeting aimed at addressing regional development concerns.
State House sources revealed that the meeting, initiated by the President, focused on discussing various development projects and other pertinent issues.
Following the meeting, Ruto announced that the Othaya Hospital in Nyeri would be upgraded from its status as an annex of Kenyatta National Hospital to a full-fledged parastatal.

This upgrade will grant the hospital a dedicated board and independent budget, enhancing its capacity to provide comprehensive healthcare services.
Ruto explained, “Othaya’s Mwai Kibaki Hospital, formerly an annex of Kenyatta National Hospital, will be officially recognized as a parastatal with its board and budget, ensuring it is well-equipped for the Universal Health Coverage initiative starting next month.”
Recently, Gachagua’s role in the government has been overshadowed by perceived political disagreements with the President.
This tension follows Gachagua’s extensive campaign across the Mt Kenya region, seeking to consolidate regional support and assert his influence.
Critics, including President Ruto’s allies, have accused Gachagua of attempting to undermine the President’s political standing in the region.
In response, Gachagua’s supporters have alleged that there is a concerted effort to marginalize their ally and exclude him from key government matters.
