From Prominent Journalist to Street Life: The Heartbreaking Fall of Former NTV Journalist Nasibo Kabale(Video)

Videos of former Nation Media Group journalist Nasibo Kabale, now living on the streets, have sparked widespread concern among Kenyans.

The viral footage has left many questioning how the once-prominent reporter ended up in such dire circumstances.

Nasibo gained recognition in 2020 for her thorough and insightful reporting on the Coronavirus pandemic.

In the video, she is seen barefoot, disheveled, and holding a knife, recounting her experiences as a journalist before ultimately turning to life on the streets.

During her interview, Nasibo explained that she keeps the knife for protection, fearing attacks while she sleeps in her makeshift shelter.

“You must sleep with a knife by your side because anyone can attack you at night,” she shared.

Nasibo also revealed that she was diagnosed with depression during her time as a health reporter at Nation Media Group.

At one point, she considered quitting her job and even contemplated suicide as her mental health declined.

She was later admitted to Chiromo Hospital for treatment, but after little improvement, she resigned herself to her fate.

“The company laid off many people, but I was among the five who stayed. Still, the job became unbearable when I started witnessing deaths. It deeply affected me,” Nasibo recounted.

Despite her hardships, Nasibo spoke of her success in journalism, having worked for both Nation Media Group and Standard Media Group, noting that she never struggled to secure employment.

“I never applied for jobs. Employers saw my dedication and offered me positions. I left Nation due to depression and Standard because of low pay,” she said.

Her current situation leaves her feeling disconnected from reality, relying on begging to survive.

However, Nasibo remains hopeful, stating that despite her circumstances, she can still read and write, and if given the chance, she would perform her duties to the best of her ability.
