ODM Politician Explains Why He Will Reject Job in Ruto’s Govt

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, a vocal critic of Kenya Kwanza’s leadership, firmly declared that he would never accept a government job offer.

During a Thursday interview on a local radio station, the senator condemned opposition leaders who joined the government, accusing them of abandoning the people.

Onyonka openly stated that under no circumstances would he currently consider taking a job from President Rutoโ€™s administration.

โ€œI cannot align with the government because my advice to the president would not be well-received,โ€ Onyonka remarked.

As a key figure in the release of the controversial Adani-JKIA takeover documents, the senator vowed to continue holding the government accountable.

While affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), he made it clear that he would not blindly follow the party’s stance by automatically supporting the government.

โ€œIโ€™ll remain in the opposition. I respect our party leader Raila, but Iโ€™ll keep overseeing the governmentโ€™s actions,โ€ he confirmed.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t elected to simply applaud when the government introduces flawed policies.โ€

Onyonka stressed that he would prefer to stay in the opposition than betray the trust of his constituents.

Unlike some politicians, the senator highlighted that he did not enter the Senate to rubber-stamp government policies without proper evaluation.

He also addressed ODM leaders who accepted government positions. โ€œNow, some of our colleagues praise the government because theyโ€™ve joined it. It seems the government is only bad if youโ€™re left out,โ€ he criticized.

The senator promised to continue holding the government and its leaders accountable, specifically demanding transparency on the Adani deal, which he described as cloaked in secrecy.
