Court Halts Arrest Warrant for Governor Bii and Barorot
A Nakuru court has put a hold on arrest warrants previously issued for Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and his ex-deputy, John Barorot.
These warrants were initially issued after both men failed to testify in a case where Senator Jackson Mandago and three others are charged in connection with the Sh1 billion Finland education scandal.
Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege had issued the warrants during the case’s hearing.
However, lawyers representing the governor, led by Bernard Kipngetich, later persuaded the court to suspend the arrest orders.
“We will return to court on Wednesday to seek a complete withdrawal of the warrants,” Kipngetich stated.
He added that the governor did not defy court orders but was caught up with other matters and is prepared to fully cooperate with the legal process.
Earlier, when the governor and his deputy did not appear in court, prosecutor Angeline Chinga noted that both had been summoned but were absent.
The defense, represented by lawyer Stephen Bungei, pushed for the arrest warrants, arguing that the two had deliberately ignored the court’s orders.
Magistrate Ndege agreed with the defense and issued the warrants.
