Martha Koome Accused of Falsifying Info For Appointment as Chief Justice in Demand Letter Slap
A Kenyan woman, asserting her role as a founding member of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA K), has given Chief Justice Martha Koome a seven-day deadline to rectify alleged inaccuracies in the information she provided during her vetting for her current position.
In a September 3 letter, CJ Koome is accused of incorrectly listing her tenure as the federation’s vice-chairperson from 1996 to 1998 in her resume submitted to the National Assembly.
The woman challenges Koome’s claim, insisting that she held the Vice-Chair position during that time.
She emphasized that she served the Federation with honor and fulfilled all responsibilities associated with the vice-chair role, including participating in council meetings.
The notice, directed at CJ Koome and FIDA Kenya, states, “Our client, a founding member of FIDA K, was elected Vice Chair of the Council in the 1996 elections.”

It further asserts, “Our client firmly believes that, according to the records, Chief Justice Martha Koome did not serve as Vice-Chair of FIDA K between 1996 and 1998.”
The woman also suggested that CJ Koome might have colluded with other federation leaders to falsify records indicating her as the Vice-Chair of FIDA Kenya.
The lawyer’s ultimatum warns that if CJ Koome does not amend the information, legal action will be pursued.
The letter concludes with a statement: “We are instructed to initiate legal proceedings in the High Court to protect our client’s interests, with all associated risks and costs borne by you.”
This demand follows four years after Martha Koome was appointed Kenya’s first female Chief Justice, confirmed in May 2021 after a successful vetting and subsequent approval by the National Assembly.
