Senator Thang’wa Rubbishes Ichung’wah’s Claim That He Was Consulted in the Appointment of Agriculture CS
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has refuted Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah’s assertion that Kiambu lawmakers were consulted about the appointment of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Mwihia Karanja.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 4, Thang’wa criticized Ichung’wah’s claims as misleading, clarifying that he was not part of the consultation process.
Thang’wa emphasized that even if he had been included, he would not have suggested Karanja’s name for the position, citing his lack of familiarity with the appointee.
“As the MP for Kiambu County, I need to make it clear that I was not consulted in the selection process for the new Cabinet Secretary from our county, nor was I invited to contribute to that decision. It is inaccurate for the Kikuyu MP to imply that all Kiambu MPs were involved. Had I been consulted, I would not have endorsed the current Agriculture CS, as I am unfamiliar with him. This does not imply any judgment on his potential performance or the decision’s correctness,” Thang’wa stated.

The senator further mentioned that had he been consulted, he might have suggested notable figures such as former Public Service CS Moses Kuria and former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu.
“While ODM proposed prominent individuals like Joho, Oparanya, Mbadi, and Wandayi, I could have recommended key figures from Kiambu, including Moses Kuria, Kabogo, Waititu, Nyoro, Maara, Waikenda, Jungle, Wakanyi, among others. In summary, I did not participate in the meeting organized by Ichung’wah regarding the selection process for Kiambu,” Thang’wa added.
On Monday, September 2, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah claimed that President William Ruto had asked Kiambu MPs to identify a candidate for the Agriculture CS role.
“When President Ruto was reappointing the cabinet, he asked us, Kiambu MPs, to find a candidate for the Agriculture CS position, and we complied,” Ichung’wah said.
