DP Gachagua Ally James Gakuya Summoned by NCIC

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has called Embakasi North MP James Gakuya to answer allegations of inciting ethnic discord.

In the official summon, the NCIC instructed Gakuya to report to their Upper Hill office in Nairobi on September 5 at 11 am to aid in their investigation.

Gakuya faces accusations of making inflammatory comments about the Somali community at a public event, which the Commission believes could foster animosity, hatred, and violence.

The NCIC asserts that Gakuyaโ€™s statements violated Kenyaโ€™s constitutional principles of peaceful coexistence among diverse ethnic groups.

The commission also warned that failure to attend the scheduled meeting is a violation of Section 63(c) and Section 63(e) of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

This summons follows a similar action taken against Daadab MP Farah Maalim last month for controversial remarks about recent protests.

Maalim was instructed to appear at the NCIC headquarters on July 11 at 10 am for questioning.

In a viral video, Maalim was reportedly heard suggesting that he would have suppressed anti-government protesters if he were president.

The NCIC reiterated that Maalimโ€™s failure to attend is also an offense under Section 63(c) and Section 63(e) of the NCIC Act, with accusations of inciting hostility and discrimination.

Despite the NCICโ€™s request, Maalim has denied the allegations, claiming the video was manipulated and did not accurately reflect his statements.
