Pupils Collapse After Police Lob Teargas Inside Primary School

Several students at a primary school in Meru fell ill on Friday when police officers raided the school, using teargas canisters to disperse protesters who had taken refuge there.

Reports indicate that the canisters were deployed while the students were in their classrooms, and engaged in their usual learning activities.

Footage reviewed by Gossipa2z.com shows teachers trying to revive students who collapsed from inhaling the tear gas, while others rushed to water sources to alleviate the discomfort.

According to one teacher, “Approximately four tear gas canisters were used, with one accidentally thrown into a classroom.”

The teacher added, “When the gas was deployed, some protesters jumped over the fence and entered the school grounds.”

A rescue team was quickly sent to the scene, administering first aid to the affected students before transporting them to the hospital. Due to the high number of injured students, additional ambulances were requested to provide prompt care.

Meanwhile, the protesters were seen fleeing the school after a brief clash with the officers inside the premises.

The demonstrators expressed their intention to persist with their protests until Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza resigned from her role. “We will continue our protests until the governor steps down. She has been given two years to show progress, but there have been no developments in the county. Despite being impeached twice and saved by the Senate, she must resign this time,” declared one of the protesters.
