Third case of Mpox Confirmed in Kenya

The Ministry of Health has confirmed a third case of Mpox in the country, with a 30-year-old female patient in Nairobi testing positive for the disease.

Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth announced on Friday that the patient, who has a recent travel history to Uganda, is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment in an isolation unit in the capital.

This latest case brings the total number of confirmed Mpox cases in Kenya to three, following earlier detections in Taita Taveta and Busia counties.

To date, the Ministry has tested a total of 89 samples for Mpox, with 79 testing negative and seven still under analysis.

Dr Amoth highlighted that the Ministry has been actively monitoring the situation and has ramped up efforts to control the spread of the disease.

The ongoing active surveillance includes a rigorous screening of travelers at the countryโ€™s designated Ports of Entry, with over 582,000 individuals screened to date.

The Ministry of Health is urging the public to remain calm, assuring that the healthcare system is fully equipped to manage the disease.

“We wish to reassure the public that our healthcare facilities are fully prepared to diagnose and manage this disease and there is no need to panic… We remain dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of all citizens and we will continue implementing comprehensive response measures,” said Dr Amoth in a statement to newsrooms.
